Social Media policy

A new, revised Duke Health Social Media Policy has been finalized.

Here’s what’s new:

  • There is now a singular policy for the School of Medicine, PDC, and Duke University Health System.
  • Attending physicians may now share patient stories, with proper patient authorization, on their own channels.
  • Attending physicians may share minimum necessary PHI, or de-identified information, i.e., clinical information including photos, videos, or audio with proper patient authorization for the purpose of general health care education.

Please read over the policy and share broadly through your department/unit channels with faculty, providers, trainees, staff, and students. A slide deck has been developed for your use as well.
You can find the policy on the Duke School of Medicine website

This policy was carefully and painstakingly revised to protect patient privacy and also allow Duke Health to better take advantage of the power of social media to communicate our mission and demonstrate excellence in research, education, and patient care.
